Eqology vs. Zinzino VS

Last updated: March 2026 · Reading time: 14 min.

Eqology Pure Arctic Oil Natural and Zinzino BalanceOil+ are among the best-known premium Omega-3 oils in Europe. Both use Norwegian fish oil in triglyceride form, supplemented with olive oil and vitamin D3. However, there are decisive differences in EPA+DHA content, the fish source, freshness, and in one point that is often glossed over: both providers work with network marketing (MLM).

Detailed comparison: Where are the differences?

Fish source and origin

Eqology Pure Arctic Oil Natural uses exclusively Arctic cod (Gadus morhua) from Norwegian waters, supplied as CodMarine® by Pharma Marine AS. Cod is a larger fish, which can in principle carry a higher risk of contaminants. Eqology compensates for this with strict quality controls, its own TOTOX batch reports and MSC certification. Alongside the Natural product, there are further variants: Heart & Energy (with CoQ10) and Gold (with lutein).

Zinzino BalanceOil+ uses small pelagic fish (anchovies, mackerel, sardines). These are lower in the food chain and naturally accumulate fewer contaminants — a qualitative advantage. Zinzino also offers several variants: BalanceOil+ (standard), Premium, AquaX and Vegan.

EPA+DHA content

Normalised to 10 ml, the two oils are closer to each other than is often suggested: Eqology Pure Arctic Oil Natural delivers 680 mg EPA and 820 mg DHA (1,500 mg EPA+DHA per 10 ml). Zinzino BalanceOil+ contains 1,069 mg EPA and 569 mg DHA (1,638 mg EPA+DHA per 10 ml) — around 9% more EPA+DHA for the same volume of oil. The difference increases with the higher daily dose: Zinzino recommends 0.15 ml/kg body weight (= 12 ml at 80 kg), Eqology a flat 10 ml. At 80 kg you take 2 ml more Zinzino daily — and reach approximately 1,966 mg EPA+DHA/day vs. 1,500 mg with Eqology.

The bigger difference lies in the fatty acid profile: Zinzino is EPA-focused (1,069 vs. 569 mg per 10 ml), Eqology is DHA-focused (820 vs. 680 mg per 10 ml). Depending on your goal — heart health favours EPA, brain function and vision favour DHA — this may be the deciding factor.

TOTOX value and freshness

Eqology consistently states a TOTOX value of 4-6 for Pure Arctic Oil Natural — an excellent value. Important note: these values are self-declared and are not independently verified by IFOS. Eqology documents them via its own batch reports and through the Cologne List.

Zinzino does not publish batch-specific TOTOX values for the finished product. The company states that IFOS methods are not directly comparable for their fish oil-olive oil blend (60:40). Zinzino states it is GOED-compliant (limit <26). A direct TOTOX comparison between the two products is therefore methodologically difficult.

The olive oil concept

An important difference that is often overlooked: in Zinzino BalanceOil+, the cold-pressed olive oil from Picual olives makes up 40% of the product volume — with a declared polyphenol content of over 750 mg/kg. The olive oil is an integral part of the product concept here, intended to improve the absorption of Omega-3 fatty acids and to exert its own antioxidant effect.

In Eqology, organic olive oil (cold-pressed) is also present, but only as a minor component without a comparable polyphenol focus.

Blood tests: Both measure the same — in the same laboratory

Both Zinzino's BalanceTest and Eqology's Omega-3 Test Kit measure the same parameters: Omega-3 Index, Omega-6:3 ratio and a profile of 11 fatty acids — including a complete fatty acid report. And both are analysed in the same laboratory: Vitas AS in Oslo, a GMP-certified laboratory specialised in dried blood spot fatty acid analysis since 1994. Results are available at Zinzino via zinzinotest.com and at Eqology via omegaratiotest.com.

The main difference lies in price and marketing: Zinzino's BalanceTest costs €189 for individual purchase (€133 Premier), Eqology's test €88 (€66 with subscription). Zinzino places greater emphasis on the Omega-6:3 ratio — after 120 days of taking BalanceOil+, Zinzino states it averages below 3:1 (Western European average: 10:1 to 20:1). Eqology focuses more on the Omega-3 Index as the primary metric.

The distribution model: Both are MLM

An essential point that is inadequately represented in many comparisons: Both companies work with network marketing (MLM).

Zinzino has a classic multi-level commission model. Consultants earn on direct sales and on the revenues of their recruited sales partners across several levels. There are documented complaints about cancellation difficulties with subscriptions.

Eqology also operates a "Business Partner" system with multi-level commissions — thus also MLM. The difference from the Zinzino model lies in the degree of aggressiveness: no comparable DSSRC complaints (Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council) are documented for Eqology. The 6-month minimum subscription term is nonetheless a clear point of criticism.

Note on the distribution model (applies to both providers)

Both Eqology and Zinzino distribute their products through network marketing (MLM). This is a legal distribution model, but typically leads to higher end-consumer prices and potential conflicts of interest in advice, as distributors have a financial interest in selling. The products themselves can still be of high quality. Zinzino's MLM structure is, according to available information, more aggressively developed than Eqology's Business Partner model.

IFOS certification: Neither provider confirmed

Neither product is listed in the IFOS programme (International Fish Oil Standards). Eqology is not registered in the IFOS database and instead relies on its own TOTOX batch reports and the Cologne List. Zinzino is also not IFOS-certified and states that the IFOS methodology is not suitable for its fish oil-olive oil blend. For buyers who value independent third-party verification, Norsan Omega-3 Total (IFOS 5 stars) is a relevant alternative.

Eqology vs. Norsan in detail →

Conclusion

Both products deliver high-quality Omega-3 in natural triglyceride form — and both come from MLM distribution. That is the most important fact to know before buying.

Per 10 ml of oil, Zinzino BalanceOil+ delivers 1,638 mg EPA+DHA — around 9% more than Eqology Pure Arctic Oil Natural (1,500 mg) — though with a higher recommended daily dose (12 ml vs. 10 ml). Zinzino is EPA-focused, Eqology is DHA-focused. Zinzino impresses with 40% olive oil containing polyphenols and the BalanceTest. Eqology scores with low TOTOX (4-6, self-declared), MSC certification and cod (CodMarine®). Neither is IFOS-certified. Both blood tests run through Vitas AS in Oslo. The price comparison across all 13 oils shows: Norsan offers the best value for money — from €7/100 ml, IFOS 5 stars, available in retail.

Anyone seeking a premium oil with independent third-party verification who rejects both MLM models will find Norsan Omega-3 Total a strong alternative.
