omega3-test.net explains omega-3 fatty acids, the Omega-3 Index and the quality of omega-3 oils. On this page we disclose who is behind it, how we make money and the rules we write by. You should be able to put every recommendation on this website into context.
Who is behind omega3-test.net
The website is a project of Rocket Racer UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Munich. You will find the full details in the imprint. We are not doctors and not a laboratory. Our articles summarise published studies, official information and manufacturer data and are no substitute for medical advice.
How we are funded
We are a distribution partner of Eqology. If you order via one of our Eqology links, we receive a commission. The price you pay does not change as a result. These links are marked on the website with an asterisk (*) and the note “Advertising link”.
That also means we have a financial interest in Eqology products. This is why our comparisons always include alternatives with price, laboratory and test duration – such as Norsan, Omegametrix or a test at your doctor's – and we say who they may suit better.
In short
Researched with sources, but not neutrally funded. Advertising links are marked. Nobody pays us for content.
The criteria we use to compare
We assess omega-3 oils and tests on the basis of verifiable information:
- Content: mg of EPA and DHA per daily serving
- Freshness: TOTOX, peroxide and anisidine values, where published
- Purity: heavy metals, PCBs and dioxins, third-party certificates (e.g. IFOS)
- Form: triglyceride or ethyl ester form
- Price: cost per 1,000 mg of EPA+DHA
- Tests: laboratory, number of fatty acids measured, waiting time, price
Where a manufacturer does not publish values, we say so instead of estimating.
Our source standard
- Health statements only within the scope of the EU's authorised health claims (Regulation (EU) No 432/2012).
- Intake recommendations based on the reference values of the German Nutrition Society (DGE). The DGE issues recommendations; it does not “approve” statements.
- Studies with author, year and PubMed ID, so that you can read them yourself. Study results are science reporting, not promises of a cure.
- We give figures together with their source.
